These savory pancakes can be soft or crispy, depending on our cooking style. To make Besan pancakes soft and thick, spread a thick batter, and for crispy pancakes, spread the batter thin.

Savory Pancake Recipe is a nutritious and protein-rich recipe for your mid-day cravings. One can stuff cottage cheese (Paneer) or mixed vegetables inside the pancake to make it more delicious.

The pancakes are easy to make and can be cooked in different styles. A basic besan pancake recipe does not include any fillings or vegetables. One can make different savory pancakes by customizing them as one wants.

Simple and Easy Savory Pancakes Recipe

Things You Need

  • 1 cup Organic Zing’s Besan Flour
  • ¼ cup Tomatoes (Finely Chopped)
  • ¼ cup onions (Finely Chopped)
  • 1 or 2 green chilies (Finely Chopped)
  • ¼ cup chopped coriander leaves
  • ½ teaspoon ginger (Finely Chopped)
  • 1 pinch of Turmeric Powder
  • ½ teaspoon red chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
  • Salt (as required)
  • Oil (as required)
  • Water (as required)

To The Kitchen

For Batter

  1. Add Organic Zing’s besan flour into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add onions, tomatoes, green chilies, coriander leaves, and ginger into the bowl and mix everything using a ladle.
  3. After this, add turmeric, red chili powder, carom seeds, and salt (as required) to the bowl.
  4. Pour water little by little into the bowl and mix the batter. Do not pour all water at once; you will get a lumpy or inconsistent mixture.
  5. Stir the batter evenly and ensure it makes a smooth and runny consistency.

(One can taste the batter a little to check the salt)

Cooking Savory Besan Pancakes

  1. Heat a frying pan or skillet over medium heat. You can also use a non-stick frying pan.
  2. When the pan is medium hot, spread 1 or 1 ½ teaspoons of oil on it and pour a full ladle (2-3 tablespoons) of batter.
  3. Quickly spread the batter into an event-round pancake.
  4. Cook the chilla/savory pancake on a low flame until the top begins to look cooked.
  5. Drizzle a little oil on the top of the chilla and around the edges.
  6. Flip it and cook from the other side till it gets light brown or you see golden spots on the pancake.
  7. Repeat the process till your batter is finished.
